Prison Jailer And Guard Arrested Over Inmate Death At Magazine Prison, Colombo

COLOMBO (News 1st); A prison jailer and a guard have been arrested by the Borella Police on suspicion over the death of an inmate at the Magazine Prison in Colombo.

Police stated that the Borella Police, the Colombo Crimes Division, and the Colombo South Division Criminal Investigation Unit are conducting further investigations. These efforts were ordered by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and are being supervised by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Colombo Division.

The incident follows a dispute that broke out between two inmates and a prison guard, which resulted in all three individuals sustaining injuries and being admitted to the prison hospital.

One of the inmates subsequently died from his injuries. The deceased was identified as a 37-year-old resident of Navagampura.

Police noted that he was an inmate who had been held in remand custody in connection with the possession of narcotics.
