Live Grenade, Military Ammunition Seized in Multiple Police Raids

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police say a suspect was arrested with a live hand grenade and live ammunition during an operation carried out in the Kongollawa area, which falls within the Ataveeragollawa Police Division.

According to police, a live hand grenade was recovered from the suspect’s possession along with 52 live T‑56 rounds and 30 live 9mm rounds. The arrested individual is a 48‑year‑old resident of the Ataveeragollawa area.

Meanwhile, police also reported another arrest in the Wattala Thelagapatha area, where a suspect was found in possession of a foreign‑manufactured 12‑bore double‑barrel shotgun without a valid licence. The weapon was recovered from a house in the area, and the suspect was taken into custody for unlawful possession of the firearm.

In a separate incident, police said a raid carried out at a house in the Dehigahahena area of Weeraketiya led to the arrest of another individual. During the operation, officers seized a locally manufactured T‑katas type firearm, which can be fitted with T‑56 ammunition, along with two T‑56 rounds that were being kept illegally.
