Former MP Sajin Vass Gunawardena Released on Bail

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Colombo Magistrate's Court today ordered the release on bail of former Member of Parliament Sajin Vass Gunawardena, who was in remand custody over corruption charges.

The case was called before Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama. 

After considering the facts presented, the Chief Magistrate ordered the suspect to be released on two personal bails of Rs. 5 million each including an overseas travel ban.

The suspect was ordered to surrender his passport to the custody of the court.

The former Member of Parliament was arrested and remanded in connection with the illicit acquisition of assets.

Investigations revealed that he could not account for the earning of approximately Rs. 243 million during the period between March 31st 2013, and March 31st 2014.
