COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) says that a fuel tanker from the IndianOil Company is scheduled to arrive in the country today.

The Chairman of CPC D.A. Rajakaruna, noted that the vessel contains 18,000 metric tons of Diesel and 18,000 metric tons of 92-octane Petrol.

The arrival of the ship follows a recent diplomatic conversation over the telephone between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

High-level diplomatic interventions were made between India and Sri Lanka to resolve existing issues regarding the fuel supply.

Accordingly, following conversations the IndianOil Company decided to dispatch a fuel tanker to Lanka IOC.

Ten fuel tankers are scheduled to arrive in the country within the next month.

According to the CPC sufficient Diesel stocks orders are available until mid-April.

Adequate supplies of both 92 and 95-octane petrol are also secured until the month of June.

Managing Director of CPC Mayura Neththikumarage, assured that there will be no fuel shortages during the festive season in April.

Additionally, discussions are underway to secure fuel stocks in the long term.

Clarifying the current fuel stocks, Neththikumarage said that Sri Lanka do not have an issue with refined fuel stocks. However bringing down sufficient crude oil supplies have been an issue, in fact two shipments did not get through to Sri Lanka he said.

However as an alternative more refined fuel stocks have been ordered where one shipment has already been docked at the Port of Colombo.
