COLOMBO (News 1st): Police have announced that security has been provided to all fuel stations across the island. Meanwhile, according to Police, the public have begun hoarding fuel due to the unstable situation in the Middle East.
Police said that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has informed the public there is no need for undue fear, as the country maintains sufficient fuel reserves.
Police added that certain groups are systematically collecting fuel in containers. To prevent such activities, all police stations have been instructed to coordinate with fuel station management to suspend the issuance of fuel into cans, bottles, or other containers until further notice, except for essential requirements such as fishing vessels, factories, construction sites, agricultural work, and domestic needs.
Furthermore, Sri Lanka Police will take strict legal action against individuals or groups involved in hoarding fuel for resale at higher prices, as well as those spreading false information regarding fuel supplies on social media.
