COLOMBO (News 1st); The Court of Appeal has dismissed an appeal filed against the death sentence of Jayasingham Rajeev alias Sudhakaran, who was sentenced to death by the Colombo High Court for possession and transportation of 2.53g of heroin.
Justice Shashi Mahendran, with the concurrence of Court of Appeal Judge Justice P. Kumaran Ratnamge, delivered the verdict after considering the appeal which sought the acquittal of the defendant from the death sentence.
The accused had been arrested during a police raid in Madampitiya, Colombo on March 17, 2014, while in possession of 2.53 grams of heroin.
The Court of Appeal bench confirmed that the prosecution had proven the allegations against the defendant beyond reasonable doubt.
