Special Three-Day Dengue Control Program Launched in Colombo Municipality

COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Dengue Control Unit of the Ministry of Health says a special three-day dengue suppression program will commence in the Colombo Municipality areas, today. 

Acting Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, Dr. Kapila Kannangara said that targeted dengue control activities will be implemented in areas with higher numbers of dengue cases.

He added that teams including Public Health Inspectors, community police units, and other groups will be participating in the campaign.

At present, the highest number of dengue patients in the country is reported from the Colombo district of the Western Province. 889 dengue cases have been recorded so far this year within the Colombo Municipal Council area alone. 

Across the island, a total of 12,165 dengue patients have been reported during the year to date.

Dr. Kannangara further noted that besides Colombo, high numbers of dengue cases have been reported in Matara, Galle and Kandy.
