COLOMBO (News 1st) - Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, Anil Jayantha Fernando, says that a potential move by the United States to impose a uniform tariff on all countries presents an ideal opportunity for local exporters to promote their products.

Speaking to Newsfirst, the Deputy Minister highlighted that by enhancing product quality, Sri Lankan exporters will be able to increase their competitiveness and secure a stronger foothold in the global market.

Deputy Minister Anil Jayantha Fernando emphasized that the proposed U.S. tariff changes do not pose a threat to the Sri Lankan export market. Instead, he noted that since the tariffs would apply uniformly across all nations, the playing field remains level for local exporters.

He urged domestic businesses to view this transition as a strategic advantage rather than a setback. By refining and curating their export activities now, Sri Lankan exporters can capitalize on the shifting market dynamics without fear of disproportionate harm to their trade relationship with the United States.
