COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation has announced that the draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) from the Government of Sri Lanka for the development of the Kankesanthurai (KKS) Port is now complete.
Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation, Anura Karunathilaka, stated that the document is set to be forwarded to the Attorney General’s Department for legal clearance.
The Indian government has agreed to provide $63.5 million in financial aid for the development of the port.
The project is expected to be managed as a joint venture between the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) and an entity nominated by the government of India.
Once the Attorney General’s approval is secured, final discussions will be held with Indian authorities to officially sign the agreement.
The Minister added that the project will commence once the MoU is finalized, covering both the financial grant and the subsequent construction phases.
