COLOMBO (News 1st); Eran Wickramaratne has assumed the post of Chairman of the Sri Lanka Cricket Reforms Committee. Wickramaratne, an alumnus of Royal College, Colombo, served as the captain of the school’s Second XI cricket team during his school years.
He later went on to represent the school’s First XI cricket team as well.
Having earned selection to the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Team, he continued to demonstrate a high level of skill as a batsman at the national school level.
Owing to his outstanding performances as a batsman during his school career, Eran Wickramaratne earned the opportunity in 1977 to play as an opening batsman for the Tamil Union Cricket Team.
In addition, he also played in the Kent Amateur League in England.
Wickramaratne pursued his higher education up to a postgraduate degree in Economics from the University of London.
He subsequently entered the banking sector, where he served for 15 years as a Chief Executive Officer.
In later years, he transitioned into politics, serving as a Member of Parliament, a State Minister, and a Deputy Minister.
