Over 100mm Expected in Several Provinces; Eheliyagoda Records Highest Rainfall

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Department of Meteorology says that heavy rains Exceeding 100mm are Expected in several areas in the Central, Uva, Sabaragamuwa, Eastern, and North-Central provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.

Heavy across are being reported due to a lower atmospheric disturbance persisting over the island.

The MET Department advised the public to take necessary precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, the highest rainfall in the island during the 24-hour period ending at 8:00 AM today was recorded in the Eheliyagoda. 

The Department of Meteorology reported that the Rainfall was recorded at 171 mm in Eheliyagoda, 147 mm in Kiriella, 138mm in Deraniyagala and 119.4 mm Katugasthota subsequently.
