Police Receive Rs. 556 Million Worth of New Tech

COLOMBO (News 1st); A consignment of new technological equipment valued at Rs. 556 million was handed over to the Sri Lanka Police on February 18, 2026, with the aim of strengthening efficiency and modernising public service.

The equipment was presented by Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Attorney-at-Law Priyantha Weerasooriya.

The symbolic handover took place at the Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, where the IGP officially received the consignment.

The equipment package includes: 1,718 computers worth Rs. 365 million, 575 photocopy machines valued at Rs. 129 million, Speed detectors worth Rs. 45 million, and 1,750 UPS units valued at Rs. 17 million.

According to officials, the primary objective of providing these technological tools is to ease the workload of police officers, particularly given the operational demands of the service.
