COLOMBO (News 1st); An Additional Secretary attached to the Ministry of Public Administration was arrested this morning following investigations into a major financial fraud, the Financial and Commercial Crimes Investigation Division of the Central Crimes Investigations Bureau confirmed.
The arrest was made after investigators acted on a complaint received by the division.
According to the CID, the suspect is alleged to have committed the offence while serving as an Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation in 2025.
Investigations revealed that the official had allegedly obtained Rs. 22.7 million from a medical practitioner residing in Borella by promising to provide a vehicle through an auction.
However, to date, neither the money nor the vehicle has been returned to the complainant.
The suspect, a resident of Dehiwala, is scheduled to be produced before the Fort Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
