Parliament Chief of Staff Requests One Month to Respond to Allegations

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The suspended Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary General of Parliament, Chaminda Kumara Kularathne, has requested one month to respond to the allegations made against him.

He was previously granted a period of 14 days to respond, however according to the Speaker’s Office, the additional time requested by Chaminda Kumar Kularatne has now been approved.

Meanwhile, a file containing documents related to allegations of Chaminda Kumara Kularathne has been handed over to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

The Speaker’s Office stated that the file was submitted based on the recommendations of the preliminary report and in accordance with a decision taken by the Parliamentary Staff Advisory Committee.

Chaminda Kumara Kularatne was suspended under allegations that, while serving as Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary General of Parliament, he attempted to mislead parliamentary officials by submitting false information regarding his previous service period. 

Kularathne is also accused of securing an appointment subject to a one-year probationary period and receiving a salary at a higher scale than the designated for the position, thereby causing a financial loss to the government.
