COLOMBO (News 1st) - In a thrilling Group A encounter of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at the R. Premadasa Cricket Stadium in Colombo, India delivered a commanding performance to defeat Pakistan by 61 runs.

Notably, the two captains did not exchange a customary handshake, adding a touch of tension to an already high-profile encounter.

After winning the toss, Pakistan opted to field first, hoping to restrict the Indian batting lineup on a surface that offered some early assistance to the bowlers.

However, India rose to the occasion and posted a competitive total of 175/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

India’s innings was masterfully anchored by Ishan Kishan, who delivered a scintillating 77 off just 40 balls.

His commanding performance earned him the Player of the Match award and laid the foundation for India’s imposing total.

The middle order contributed crucial runs to push the total to a challenging 175.

Chasing 176 for victory, Pakistan struggled to build partnerships against disciplined Indian bowling.

Despite some resistance from the lower order, including Shaheen Shah Afridi’s 23 runs, Pakistan were eventually bowled out for 114 in 18 overs.

India’s bowlers maintained consistent pressure throughout the innings, picking up wickets at regular intervals and preventing Pakistan from gaining any momentum in the chase.

The comprehensive 61-run victory not only secured valuable points for India in Group A but also reinforced their dominance in one of cricket’s most celebrated rivalries.

Many predicted that the India-Pakistan match of this year's T20 World Cup would not take place as scheduled.

This followed an intervention by the Pakistani government, which initially stated that their team would not participate in the tournament.

However, a few days prior to the match, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake intervened by engaging in a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

As a result of these discussions, it was officially announced that the Pakistani team would compete.

Furthermore, Mohsin Naqvi, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board and Federal Minister for Interior of Pakistan, arrived in Sri Lanka last night.

Tickets for this highly anticipated encounter were completely sold out 24 hours before the first ball was bowled.

The Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Jay Shah, along with 11 high-ranking officials from the council, arrived to witness the match.

Before the commencement of the game, an opening ceremony was held featuring Indian artist Hanumankind.

Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake also arrived at the R. Premadasa Cricket Stadium to witness this historic encounter.

A notable highlight was the presence of ICC representatives alongside several high-level Indian and Pakistani dignitaries at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium today.

The electrifying atmosphere at Colombo added to the intensity of the contest, as fans witnessed yet another memorable chapter in the India-Pakistan cricket saga.
