Insurance Scheme Introduced For Divers

COLOMBO(News 1st); The Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board has taken steps to introduce an insurance scheme for divers.

This is being implemented under the government’s fisheries policy proposals.

The Board stated that if a fisherman dies while engaged in a diving activity related to fishing, a payment of Rs. 1.2 million will be provided.

The insurance cover can be obtained under several plans.

Accordingly, a fisherman must pay a premium of Rs. 1,920 to receive one year of insurance coverage.

An annual premium of Rs. 2,550 is required for a cover of Rs. 1.5 million, while a premium of Rs. 3,600 is needed for a cover of Rs. 2 million.

In addition, the Board stated that benefits will also be paid in cases of permanent disability, temporary disability, or disappearance of the fisherman.
