Burnt Vehicle Found in Baddegama Linked to Double Murder

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A burnt-out motor vehicle has been discovered in Baddegama, Galle which is suspected to have used by the gunmen involved in the recent shooting in Akuregoda, Thalangama.

Investigations have revealed that the assassination of Lawyer Buddhika Mallawarachchi and his spouse in Akuregoda was allegedly orchestrated by the organized criminal known as "Karandeniya Sudda."

Police have deployed 10 specialized teams to apprehend the suspects involved including officers from Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Police Special Task Force (STF), Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) andTerrorism Investigation Division (TID)

According to police reports, the deceased lawyer had previously represented "Karandeniya Sudda" in court and investigations have suggested the killings were triggered by a dispute arising from the lawyer allegedly revealing information related to the case to an opposing party.

Furthermore, investigations disclosed that the lawyer had recently appeared in court on behalf of the party associated with "Loku Patty" regarding the murder of "Club Wasantha".

The double homicide occurred at approximately 4:50 PM on the 13th of February in the parking lot of a supermarket in Akuregoda.

Two individuals of a group arriving in a motor vehicle opened fire before fleeing the scene.

The 44-year-old lawyer and his 42-year-old spouse were residents of the Pore, in Athurugiriya.
