COLOMBO (News 1st): The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has decided to establish an additional court, starting this Monday, specifically to hear cases filed by the commission.

Commenting on the progress made by the Commission, Ranga Dissanayake, Director General of the Bribery Commission, stated that activities under CIABOC have progressed significantly, particularly with the initiation of the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan. He noted that the organization of raids and the progress made on filed cases have been substantial.

Director General Dissanayake stated that addressing these cases as part of the national action plan has contributed significantly to changing public perception regarding corruption in the country.

According to Dissanayake, approximately 8,000 cases have been filed under CIABOC. Investigations into 40% of these cases have already commenced, with a specific focus on large-scale corruption and long-standing, years-old cases.

Regarding the ongoing anti-corruption strategy, Ranga Dissanayake announced that two more additional courts will be established, emphasizing that legal proceedings will be conducted without delay.
