Govt Moves to Regulate School Transport Nationwide

COLOMBO (News 1st); Steps have been taken to streamline and regulate the transportation of schoolchildren.

The Prime Minister’s Media Division stated that a discussion on this matter was held between officials of the National Transport Commission and the Ministry of Education.

The meeting was held under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.

The authority to regulate school transport services has been vested in the National Transport Commission.

Regulatory guidelines for this purpose have already been drafted, and during the discussion, officials reviewed the existing provisions and explored new proposals that should be incorporated.

Focus was also directed toward addressing transport needs arising from the new school reorganization process under the ongoing education reforms.

The discussion further emphasized establishing an organized, safe, and efficient transport system for schoolchildren by minimizing current issues and enhancing the effectiveness and productivity of the school transport service.
