COLOMBO (News1st): Plans are underway to complete the installation of the 10 Bailey bridges received under Indian assistance within a period of one month.

Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku, Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation, stated that technical support for this has been pledged by officers from the Indian Army Corps of Engineers.

The Indian Navy ship INS Gharial, arrived at the Colombo Port on the 4th of February.

The supply of these bailey bridges are part of a USD 450 million special Indian Assistance Package announced by India to help rebuild Sri Lanka’s infrastructure following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah during the recent visit of the Minister of External Affairs in India, Dr. S. Jaishankar to Sri Lanka.

These Bailey bridges will help restore critical connectivity in areas where bridges were permanently destroyed or damaged by the cyclone Ditwah.
