Former Suriyakanda OIC, Constable Arrested Over Killing A Sambar

COLOMBO (News 1st); A former Officer‑in‑Charge of the Suriyakanda Police Station and a police constable have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a Sambar in the Lankaberiya area of Suriyakanda.

The arrests were made following an investigation carried out by the Central Crimes Investigations Bureau on the instructions of the Inspector General of Police.

The incident occurred on the 17th of last month, when residents accused police officers of shooting and killing a Sambar, leading to heightened tensions in the area. 

In response, the Inspector General of Police ordered a special investigation, which was handed over to the CCIB for further inquiry.

The two arrested police officers are scheduled to be produced before the Embilipitiya Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
