COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s judicial landscape entered a defining moment as Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya underscored the national importance of the country’s highest court, stressing that the strength of its infrastructure directly reflects the strength of justice delivered to the people.

Speaking at the opening of the refurbished Supreme Court building, the Prime Minister highlighted that improving judicial facilities is fundamentally an investment in public trust. She noted that a secure, efficient and well-equipped environment enables the judiciary to function with the independence and dignity expected in a modern democracy.

Amarasuriya emphasised that public attention is now firmly fixed on the Supreme Court, with citizens expecting fair, equal and transparent justice from within its walls.

She stressed that the judgments made in this building will shape the very character of the state - justice, democracy, the rule of law, and the legitimacy of one of the most critical pillars of government.

Calling the moment 'historically important,' the Prime Minister referred to the symbolic key handed over during the ceremony, expressing hope that it would unlock a future defined by sound, principled and historic rulings.

She acknowledged the responsibility carried by those who work within the Supreme Court, noting that their commitment will determine how justice is delivered across the country.

As Sri Lanka receives the newly refurbished complex, Amarasuriya expressed confidence that the Supreme Court will continue to uphold justice, safeguard the rights of all citizens, and serve the nation as it has done throughout its past.
