Appeal Court Pushes Order In Monks’ Remand Case

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Court of Appeal postponed until the 3rd of February, the announcement regarding the writ petition filed seeking to invalidate the order issued against Venerable Balangoda Kassapa Thero and Venerable Trikunamalaye Kalýanavanshatissa Thero, who are currently held in remand custody in connection with an incident involving a land in Trincomalee.

Venerable Balangoda Kassapa Thero and Venerable Kalýanavanshatissa Thero were remanded over an incident said to be related to a land belonging to the Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi Bodhiraja Viharaya, located along the Trincomalee‑Kotuwa Road.

The decision regarding the petition, filed requesting an order to nullify the previous directive, was scheduled to be delivered today.

However, Court of Appeal President Justice Rohantha Abeysooriya stated that the order will instead be announced on the 3rd.

He further noted that if the order can be prepared earlier, it may be delivered on the coming Monday, and that all related parties will be duly informed.
