Ranil Arrives at Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court

Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe arrived at the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court a short while ago.

The Former President is appearing in court over the case filed under the Public Property Act, alleging that public funds were misused during Wickremesinghe's presidency, to fund a trip to London.

The purpose of the travel was to attend a graduation ceremony for his wife, Professor Maithree Wickremesinghe.

Former President Wickremesinghe appeared before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on 22 August 2025 to provide a statement regarding this matter, following which he was arrested and produced before court. He was remanded until 26 August 2025.

After considering medical reports submitted, Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura ordered his release on three personal sureties of Rs. 5 million each. The case was then adjourned to October 29, 2025.

During the hearing of the case on the 29th of October, the Magistrate directed the police to conclude the relevant investigations by today, the 28th of January, 2026.
