COLOMBO (News 1st) -More than 296 kilograms of ICE and heroin were seized from two fishing vessels in the southern seas and brought to Dikowita Fisheries Harbor.
11 suspects arrested by the Police Narcotics Bureau are set to appear before the Hulftsdorp Magistrate’s Court, Colombo where they are expected to receive seven-day detention orders.
On the 23rd of January, following a tip-off to the police about drug trafficking, Sri Lanka Navy launched a special search operation in the southern seas.
Two fishing boats carrying 11 suspects were intercepted—five fishermen on the 'Devidu' and six on the 'Chuti Malli' vessel.
The suspects and the vessels were brought to Dikowita Fisheries Harbour this morning.
The Navy reported that the vessels were carrying 184 kilograms of heroin and more than 112 kilograms of methamphetamine, also known as ice.
The total value of the seized drugs exceeds
Rs. 4.5 billion.
