COLOMBO (News 1st); Former Minister Manusha Nanayakkara withdrew the Fundamental Rights (FR) petition he had filed seeking an order preventing the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from arresting him in connection with the ongoing Korean visa scandal.
The petition was taken up before a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court presided over by Justice S. Thurairaja.
Appearing on behalf of the petitioner, President’s Counsel Saliya Peiris informed the court that the CID had officially notified the Magistrate’s Court that it had no intention of arresting Nanayakkara at this time.
Given this assurance, Peiris told the court that the petition no longer required continuation.
After considering the submissions, the bench allowed the request, granting Nanayakkara permission to withdraw the FR petition.
