President to Launch the Inaugural Nationwide Housing Program Today

COLOMBO (News1st):President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is scheduled to engage in a visit in the Northern Province to attend the Thai Pongal Festival celebrations held in Velanai, Jaffna. 

President Dissanayake will also participate in a special Thai Pongal event organized by the Jaffna Tourism Bureau to promote tourism. 

The event is scheduled to take place at the Manipay Marutady Vinayagar Kovil. 

The inauguration of a national housing program titled "A Place of One's Own – A Beautiful Life" will be held under the patronage of President Dissanayake. 

The initiative aims to construct 31,218 new houses across the island. 

The initiative includes 2,500 families in the Northern and Eastern Provinces who remain displaced or homeless due to the war. 

The ceremony is set to take place at the Weerasingham Primary School grounds in Chavakachcheri, Jaffna.

Additionally, the Northern Province segment of the "Ratama Ekata", A Nation United national operation to eradicate the drug menace will be held tomorrow at the Jaffna College of Technology grounds, presided over by the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
