COLOMBO (News 1st); The Road Development Authority (RDA) has confirmed that 13 roads across Sri Lanka remain partially or fully impassable following recent heavy rains.
According to RDA Director General Wimal Kandambi, nine roads in the Central Province, one in Uva, two in the Northern Province, and one in the North Western Province are still affected.
Kandambi noted that several bridges require urgent repairs, though temporary fixes have already restored traffic on many routes.
Meanwhile, railway services are gradually resuming after severe storm damage disrupted operations.
The Railway Department announced plans to operate two trains between Ambewela and Badulla starting Saturday, subject to final discussions on whether these services will cater to foreign tourists.
However, the section from Ambewela to Kandy remains closed due to extensive damage.
Repairs continue on multiple lines, including those hit by the recent Ditwah cyclone. F
reight services between Trincomalee and Colombo have resumed, and restoration of the Ambewela–Badulla track is complete.
The Mahawa–Polonnaruwa line has been repaired but is not yet open for passenger trains.
Once the Kala Oya bridge on the Northern Line is restored, trains will run from Colombo to Kankasanthurai.
