COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Colombo High Court scheduled February 16 for the hearing of the case filed against former Minister Namal Rajapaksa, who is accused of misappropriating Rs. 70 million received through the controversial Krrish transaction.

The case was called before High Court Judge Aparna Suwadurugoda.

During today’s proceedings, the prosecution handed over several key documents required for trial to the defense. After considering submissions, the judge fixed the next hearing date for February 16.

The indictment, filed by the Attorney General on February 5, alleges that Namal Rajapaksa fraudulently misused Rs. 70 million obtained from India’s Krrish Company, purportedly for promoting rugby in Sri Lanka.

The charges are based on a complaint lodged in 2016 by anti-corruption activist Wasantha Samarasinghe, which led to an investigation by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID).

Rajapaksa was named as a suspect, arrested, and produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court earlier, before being released on bail.
