COLOMBO (News 1st); Pakistan handed over a sea consignment of 200 tons of humanitarian relief goods to the Government of Sri Lanka, reaffirming the enduring friendship and strong bilateral ties between the two nations.

The shipment, dispatched by Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), arrived at the Colombo International Container Terminal (CICT) at Colombo Port.

The relief package includes family tents, blankets, quilts, life jackets, inflatable boats, de-watering pumps, camping lamps, mosquito nets, bubble mats, milk powder, Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), and essential medicines, aimed at supporting communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah.

This assistance builds on Pakistan’s earlier relief efforts, which included:

Pakistan Air Force C-130 aircraft carrying emergency supplies and specialized USAR teams.

A Pakistan Navy ship with an onboard helicopter, actively participating in rescue operations alongside the Sri Lankan Armed Forces.

The initiative follows a telephone call between the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the President of Sri Lanka, during which condolences were conveyed and a commitment to continued support was reaffirmed.

Acting on special directives, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry visited Sri Lanka last week to strengthen cooperation in recovery efforts.

The handover ceremony at Colombo Port was attended by Anura Karunathilaka, Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation; Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku, Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation; Rear Admiral S.J. Kumara, Commander Western Naval Area; senior officials from Sri Lanka’s Foreign Office; and representatives of the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).

Major General (Retd) Faheem Ul Aziz, High Commissioner of Pakistan, formally presented the consignment, stating:

“This assistance is a tangible expression of the everlasting friendship and goodwill of the Pakistani people for their Sri Lankan brothers and sisters. Pakistan stands ready to extend any further assistance required.”

Sri Lankan authorities expressed deep appreciation for Pakistan’s timely and sustained support, which has been vital in rescue and relief operations.

The supplies will now be distributed to affected areas, strengthening ongoing humanitarian and recovery efforts.
