Train Showdown: Driver vs Controller Clash Halts Journey for 30 Minutes!

COLOMBO (News 1st); A routine train journey from Beliatta to Anuradhapura turned into an unexpected ordeal yesterday morning, as a heated dispute between the train driver and the guard led to a 30-minute unscheduled stop at Weyangoda station — triggering an official investigation by the Department of Railways.

According to railway authorities, the train, which departed Beliatta at 8:50 AM, was halted abruptly at Weyangoda without prior notice.

The guard reportedly stopped the train due to the driver’s excessive speeding. What followed was far from professional. 

Officials revealed that both the driver and the controller engaged in a verbal confrontation, further delaying the journey and causing distress among passengers. 

The train, which was scheduled to arrive in Anuradhapura by 7:00 PM, only reached its destination after 8:00 PM.

The Department of Railways confirmed that an internal inquiry is underway to determine the exact sequence of events.
