COLOMBO (News 1st): The Matara Magistrate’s Court ordered to remand three suspects until 30 October, in connection with the assassination of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman.

The suspects were presented before Chief Magistrate Chathura Dissanayake, where they were charged with aiding and abetting the gunman involved in the killing.

According to police, the suspects include:

A resident of Galle, accused of transporting the shooter in a three-wheeler,
The owner of the motorcycle allegedly used by the gunman to flee the scene,
And a mechanic who is said to have repaired the motorcycle prior to the incident.

Four other individuals — including the alleged shooter, his wife, the motorcycle rider, and a person from Kekirawa who allegedly provided them shelter — are expected to be produced before the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board for evaluation.

This is in order to determine the nature of the drugs that the suspects are addicted to.

Initial investigations were conducted by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division, but the Inspector General of Police has since directed the case to be handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further inquiry.
