Navy Nets Nearly a Tonne of Kendu Leaves

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Navy intercepted a large consignment of approximately 956 kilograms of Kendu leaves and seized a dinghy during a search conducted in the Thudawa coastal and sea area.

The operation was carried out by SLNS Vijaya, operating under the Northwestern Naval Command, which recovered 10 sacks of Kendu leaves from the coastal waters and an additional 20 sacks along with the dinghy from the nearby beach.

Authorities suspect that the smugglers may have abandoned the consignment due to intensified naval surveillance in the region.

The seized Kendu leaves and the dinghy were handed over to the Excise Office in Puttalam for further legal proceedings.
