Call of Duty Black Ops 7 May Be Getting a New Release Date

Activision, the publisher behind Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, is thinking about releasing the shooter a week earlier than planned.

The release date for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is currently set for November 14, which, if it remains unaltered, will be the latest a new mainline entry in the series has ever been released.

However, there have been rumblings over the last few weeks that suggest Activision is considering an earlier launch for the title.

Call of Duty fans had the chance to go hands-on with Black Ops 7 during its open beta weekend earlier this month and test out the game's new movement features, weapons, maps, modes, and more.

While there were initially concerns that the next Call of Duty game would be nothing more than a "Black Ops 6 DLC," developer Treyarch Studios has announced some major changes that could make Black Ops 7 a turning point for the franchise.

After players shared their thoughts on the state of Call of Duty, the studio revealed it would return to the traditional matchmaking system for Black Ops 7, eliminate disbanding lobbies, and cancel the controversial Carry Forward feature.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7's release date is set for Friday, November 14. The shooter will once again launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, but there will be no Campaign early access this time around. However, rumors of a new release date continue to circulate, as industry insider and trusted Call of Duty leaker TheGhostOfHope claims there is "evidence" of a potential release date change for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.

The leaker goes on to say in a new post on Twitter that the release date may move up by a week, which would mean the next entry in the series could be available on Friday, November 7.

If this rumor proves to be true, this will be the first time that a mainline Call of Duty game has moved up its release date after its reveal, albeit not by a drastic amount.

When Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was released in 2018, fans were shocked by its October 12 release date. Although it was never confirmed by Activision, it is said that the studio moved the release window up by a whole month in order to avoid launching just after Red Dead Redemption 2, which hit PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 26, 2018. However, if there was a change to Black Ops 4's release date, it was made behind the scenes before an official reveal.

Should Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 move up its release date, Activision is unlikely to reveal the reason behind the decision. However, one can speculate that it may be directly tied to the monumental success of Battlefield 6, which launched on October 10 and is breaking records for the series. As Battlefield and Call of Duty are the two biggest names in the first-person shooter genre, Activision may want to attempt to rain on Battlefield 6's parade and get Black Ops 7 out the door as quickly as it can.
