COLOMBO (News 1st); Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's Security Office Neville Wanniarachchi, has been further remanded until October 31 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama, following his recent arrest over allegations of illicit asset accumulation.
Wanniarachchi was taken into custody by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, on suspicion of unlawfully acquiring assets worth Rs. 28 million.
He was produced before court today by prison officials, where Assistant Director of Legal Affairs Sulochana Hettiarachchi, appearing on behalf of the Bribery Commission, submitted a detailed progress report on the ongoing investigation.
The Commission requested further remand, citing the need to investigate newly uncovered assets allegedly linked to the suspect.
After considering the submissions, the Magistrate ordered that Wanniarachchi be remanded until October 31.
