COLOMBO (News 1st) – Former Minister Wimal Weerawansa has been summoned once again to the Tangalle Division Criminal Investigation Unit today (12).
Police say Weerawansa has been instructed to appear before the Unit at 10 a.m. for further questioning regarding a statement he made concerning an individual named Beliatta Sanaa.
The inquiry pertains to a public statement by Weerawansa alleging that Beliatta Sanaa, who was arrested on drug-related charges, is an active member of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP).
Weerawansa had previously provided a statement to the Tangalle Division Criminal Investigation Unit last Thursday, during which he maintained that he had never met Weerasinghe Sarath, alias Beliatta Sanaa, or Puwakdandawa Sanaa.
Police further noted that steps will be taken to report the matter to court against Weerawansa for allegedly making statements containing information he knew or believed to be false.
