COLOMBO (News 1st) – The distribution of housing title deeds to members of the hill country Malayagam community will take place today (12) in Bandarawela under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The event marks the fourth phase of the project to construct 10,000 houses with the support of the Indian Government, aimed at improving the living standards of estate sector families.

Under the initiative, the Indian government has allocated Rs. 3.2 million for each house, while the Sri Lankan government will contribute Rs. 4 million.
Implemented under the theme “A Comfortable Home, A Hygienic Life,” the project seeks to uplift the quality of life of plantation workers and their families.
Currently, construction work is ongoing on 1,300 houses for which foundation stones were laid last year.
The construction of another 4,700 houses is expected to be completed by next year, while the remaining 4,000 houses are scheduled for completion in 2027.
