CID Freezes 13 Bank Accounts Linked to Backhoe Saman’s Wife

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court that 13 bank accounts belonging to Shadhika Lakshani, the wife of notorious underworld figure Backhoe Saman, and her close family associates have been frozen as part of an ongoing investigation into serious criminal offenses.

The case was taken up before Chief Magistrate Asanka S. Bodaragama, who ordered that the suspect be further remanded until October 23.

Lakshani was arrested under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and the Poisons, Opium and Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, with investigators alleging her involvement in laundering proceeds linked to organized crime and narcotics trafficking.
