COLOMBO(News 1st); Seven students from a school in Dambulla have been hospitalized after coming into contact with a chemical substance found in the school’s science laboratory.

According to police, the students are from Grade 7.

During the recent school holidays, toque macaques had broken into the school’s science laboratory and damaged the roof and had destroyed various items.

Following the incident, a red-colored substance had spilled, and the students, mistaking it for chili powder, had tasted it.

As a result, they are believed to have ingested a chemical known as potassium ferrocyanide, police said.

The affected students—five boys and two girls—were promptly admitted to hospital.

Police confirmed that their condition is not serious.
