Seat Belts Mandatory On Expressways

COLOMBO(News 1st); The National Council for Road Safety states that from January 1st next year, all passengers in vehicles traveling on expressways must wear seat belts.

Chairman of the The National Council for Road Safety, Manjula Kulatunga said that a three-month grace period will be given for vehicles that were manufactured without seat belts.

About 88% of passengers have requested that this seat belt rule be enforced for city bus services as well.

The National Council for Road Safety also mentioned that they plan to make seat belts mandatory for long-distance bus services too.

Wearing seat belts for passengers in vehicles on expressways has already been implemented from the 1st of this month.
