COLOMBO (News 1st); The Government of India has signed an agreement with the Government of Sri Lanka to support the construction and equipping of a new Emergency and Trauma Care Unit at the Mannar District General Hospital.
The agreement was formalized on September 9, 2025, at the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, with the participation of Sri Lanka’s Minister of Health, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, and Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha. The signing ceremony also included senior officials from both governments and representatives from the Indian High Commission.
Under the agreement, the Government of India will allocate Rs 600 million for the project, which is expected to be completed within three years.
This project is a direct response to a request made by the Sri Lankan government .
