Former Navy Chief Remanded Over 2010 Abduction and Murder

COLOMBO (News 1st); Former Navy Commander Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne has been further remanded until September 24, following his virtual appearance before the Polgahawela Magistrate via Zoom.

The remand order is linked to an ongoing investigation into the abduction and murder of a civilian in the Pothuhera area, a case dating back to 2010. 

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Admiral Ulugetenne in connection with the incident, which allegedly involved the illegal detention and subsequent killing of the victim.

At the time of the incident, Admiral Ulugetenne served as the head of Naval Intelligence, and police investigations have revealed that the illegal detention center where the victim was reportedly held operated under his command.
