Court Grants 7-Day Detention For Suspect In Middeniya Chemical Haul

COLOMBO (News 1st): The suspect arrested in connection with the chemical stockpile found in Middeniya has been granted seven days’ detention by the court for questioning at the Police Narcotics Bureau.

He was produced before the Walasmulla Magistrate’s Court today.

The suspect, 38-year-old Wijewickrama Manamperige Piyal Senadheera, is the brother of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna member Sampath Manamperi.

Police said the 500,000-kilogram chemical stockpile was recovered buried on a property in Middeniya, following information revealed during the interrogation of detained organized criminal Backhoe Saman.
