Wildlife Dept to Act Against Substandard Elephant Fences

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Environment Minister Dr. Dhammika Patabendi says that strict action will be taken against individuals who have installed substandard private electric fences, which he identified as a major cause of elephant deaths in the country.

He stated that the Department of Wildlife Conservation has been instructed to investigate these illegal or poorly built fences and take necessary legal action.

The Minister emphasized the urgent need to regulate electric fencing to prevent further harm to wildlife, especially elephants.
