COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory indicating several spells of showers across various regions of Sri Lanka today, with potential for fairly heavy rainfall in some areas.

According to the forecast:

Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and North-Western provinces, along with Galle and Matara districts, will experience intermittent showers throughout the day.

Northern, North-Central, Uva, and Eastern provinces, as well as the Hambantota district, are likely to see showers or thundershowers after 1:00 p.m.

The department warns that fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely in parts of Northern, North-Central, Eastern, and Sabaragamuwa provinces, and in the Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts.

Residents are strongly advised to take necessary precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers. The public is urged to stay indoors during severe weather, avoid open areas, and secure loose items that may be affected by gusty winds.
