Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Meets Governor of Malacca to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism of Sri Lanka Vijitha Herath met with H.E. Tun Mohd Ali Rustam, Governor of the State of Malacca, on the sidelines of his visit to Malaysia to attend the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

During the meeting, Minister Herath expressed his deep appreciation to the Governor and the Government of Malacca for their continued goodwill and support to Sri Lanka, particularly for their generous donation of land for housing projects and for the construction of a hospital to support communities affected by the 2004 tsunami.

Governor Tun Mohd Ali Rustam agreed to an increase in the number of Sri Lankan beneficiaries in the scholarships awarded under the Governor’s Foundation for international students, recognizing the important role of educational exchange in strengthening people-to-people ties.

Both parties held productive discussions on expanding cooperation in the tourism sector, leveraging the longstanding historical and cultural links between Sri Lanka and Malacca. Minister Herath underscored the value of promoting mutual tourism exchanges and joint initiatives to enhance connectivity between the two destinations.

Governor Tun Mohd Ali Rustam reaffirmed Malacca’s strong historical bond with Sri Lanka and assured his commitment to maintaining and further nurturing this longstanding relationship. He welcomed enhanced collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
