COLOMBO (News 1st): Former Minister Rajitha Senaratne has filed a motion before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court seeking anticipatory bail, citing concerns over a possible arrest by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
The application relates to an alleged incident involving the awarding of a sand mining project at the Kirinda fisheries harbor to a Korean company, which reportedly caused a financial loss exceeding Rs. 20 million to the government.
Presiding over the matter, Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali Jayatunga issued notice to the Bribery Commission, instructing it to present its position before the court regarding the bail application.
The case is scheduled to be taken up again on July 18.
