COLOMBO (News 1st); A special national conference focused on Sri Lanka’s preparedness and strategic planning for nuclear energy will commence today in Colombo.
The event is organized by the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Power and Energy, the development and implementation of nuclear energy plans are considered a vital step toward ensuring the country’s long-term energy security and enhancing electricity generation capacity.
The conference will place particular emphasis on key areas such as governance, regulation, safety, and technical training within the nuclear energy sector. It will also highlight international cooperation and knowledge exchange as essential components of Sri Lanka’s nuclear roadmap.
Participants will engage in discussions on emerging technological trends, environmental and social impacts, economic benefits, operational performance, legal and regulatory frameworks, and strategies to build public trust in nuclear energy.
Representatives from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are expected to attend the conference.
The conference will run until July 18, bringing together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to shape the future of nuclear energy in the country.
