COLOMBO (News 1st); The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has announced the commencement of “Anti-Pyramid National Awareness Week” from 14th to 18th July 2025, aimed at educating the public on the dangers and illegality of pyramid schemes.

This nationwide initiative comes in response to a growing number of fraudulent investment schemes that have misled thousands of Sri Lankans with promises of high returns.

The CBSL, in collaboration with key stakeholders including law enforcement agencies, financial institutions, and media partners, will conduct a series of awareness programs, workshops, and media campaigns throughout the week.

According to the CBSL, pyramid schemes are prohibited under Section 83(C) of the Banking Act No. 30 of 1988, and participation—whether direct or indirect—can result in legal consequences.

Outreach activities will be carried out through 6,172 schools and 14,022 Grama Niladhari (GN) divisions’ island-wide, ensuring extensive grassroot-level coverage and community engagement.
