COLOMBO (News 1st); Dr. Alireza Delkhosh, the Ambassador of Iran to Sri Lanka, confirmed that tea exports from Sri Lanka to Iran have resumed smoothly, following temporary disruptions caused by regional instability.
Speaking to the media, Ambassador Delkhosh explained that while there were logistical challenges over the past 12 days due to heightened tensions in the region, the situation has now stabilized. “Ports are open, routes are safe, and the export of tea is functioning without issue,” he said.
He also revealed that discussions were held with Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister regarding the possibility of increasing tea exports to Iran. “We are ready to maximize imports from Sri Lanka,” the Ambassador affirmed, signaling a positive outlook for bilateral trade.
Addressing questions about oil exports, Delkhosh clarified that Iran does not directly export oil to Sri Lanka. Instead, third-party countries purchase Iranian oil and resell it to Sri Lanka, often with added commissions. He noted that while trade routes are currently secure, environmental factors such as wind patterns and potential radioactive leaks remain concerns for regional safety.
